The third book in my book reading blitz this morning was make your bed, a short book by Admiral William H McRaven. McRaven famously made a speech at a college commencement where he told people to make your bed as a way of having a small victory in the morning, and a victory that you can celebrate at the end of the day, when hopefully that small victory led to a series of other victories because of the confidence that it bring you. He also talks about his experiences in Navy SEAL training, giving us 10 structures of advice that were pretty simple and pretty valuable. It was great to read. It was a nice, quick, easy read. It was also nice to hear his examples and stories from training, from battle and from his own experiences being hit by a parachute after he had jumped out of an airplane, which sounds like a disastrous experience that left him almost crippled, but as he talks through the book, he fought back and regained his strength, as did many others who faced setback, as he says, start each day with a task completed. Find someone to help you through life, respect everyone. Know that life is not fair and that you will fail often, but if you take some risks, step up when the times are toughest, face down the bullies, lift up the downtrodden and never, ever give up. If you do these things, then the next generation and the generations that follow will live in a world far better than one we have today, and what started here will have, indeed have changed the world for the better, says Admiral William H McRaven, retired US Navy, make your bed an excellent quick and positive self help. Kind of inspirational. expansion of his speech. Nice, quick book to read. And yes, I did make my bed after I read the chapter, and I hope to keep it up. Thanks for reading.
