Kenny Epstein · built 1941 · kept classic Vegas
El Cortez opened November 7, 1941 — one of the very few pre-1950 Las Vegas hotels still operating on its original footprint. Jackie Gaughan (uncle of [[operator:gaughan|Michael Gaughan]] of [[casino:south-point|South Point]]) bought it in 1963 and held it until selling to [[operator:epstein|Kenny Epstein]] in 2008. Epstein has intentionally preserved the property as classic Las Vegas — coin-pull slots, deeply discounted rates.
