Bitcoin Foundation organization high

Early Bitcoin advocacy organization (2012–)

About

The Bitcoin Foundation is the early Bitcoin-advocacy and standards organization founded in September 2012 by Patrick Murck, Jon Matonis, Charlie Shrem, Peter Todd, and others. It was the first large-scale organized lobbying and standards body for Bitcoin and was an early funder of Bitcoin Core development work via Gavin Andresen.

The Foundation's influence waned after 2014–2015 funding shortfalls and several high-profile resignations; it now operates in a reduced capacity. It is referenced throughout the 2013–2015 era of The Bitcoin Group as the period's organizing institution.
